The site of the Hostel Camp erected by John Howie for his single workmen has only recently been identified. The photographs in this section showing the men and the cubicles are part of the Canberra & District Historical Society Collection and were taken in 1923. The site of the camp is opposite Lotus Bay in Block 3, Section 128 Stirling Park Yarralumla. The track in front of the cubicles is still evident on the ground as is the site of the Mess building and ablution blocks. Nearby to the Mess building site is a big dump with burnt material and artefacts. The Canberra Times 12 February 1929 has an article on the removal of the cubicles. Material that could be reused was saved and the remainder destroyed - probably burnt.
